Lowered Standards and Great Expectations

For those of you new to my world let me just fill you in. I am a mother of a 9 yr old boy and an 8 yr old girl. I am a wife of a husband in a very crazy business, and I am a senior in nursing school. All of that plus church, household, part time job equals insanity. The question I am asking myself at the moment is "When did I lower my standards?" The reason I ask this is because today I had my final and was jumping for joy that I got a C!!!! When I started nursing school a B was the end of the world, now I'm just happy to pass!!
Just a little background, I entered nursing school with a 3.9, anal retentive, and more than a little arrogant that I, Amy H., almost 30 something was accepted into one of the toughest programs in the state. I just knew getting in was the hard part and it was easy street from here on out. Well, those great expectations were quickly stomped down to the level of man if I pass I am the bomb!
You know that when you are figuring out what you need to score to achieve the coveted 70% for the quarter then you have definitely lowered your standards.
Regardless, I am thankful that the Lord has given me this chance to work in a field where my gifts for mercy and compassion are key. I get the opportunity to meet new people who actually need someone to just make them feel better and I will get to help do that for them. If I sound as though I am complaining about nursing school I am, but I am grateful for nursing school as well.
To those of you who are nurses, you have such a special job and I can't wait to join the ranks-- if I can meet those wonderfully high standards and great expectations!
